We are doing an application of a compression stocking. This one is an open toe compression stocking. Required is your stocking - make sure it is turned around the right way. Look at the stocking because you want one that has no ladders. Stockings normally need to be replaced every 4 to 6 months. You need a non-slip mat and a stocking applicator.
There are a couple of ways you can apply it; here we are using a stocking applicator that a patient can use. A pair of gloves helps apply the stocking as well.
To apply the stocking, put it in and then pull it around and down until the heel is in line and is just on the outside.
Then put your foot in and push it down so your foot is fully down, then bring the applicator up with the stocking.
If you have any creases in the stocking, you can use your gloves to get them out, especially if your dexterity isn’t the best. Then bring it up. Done.
